Where's the Blog Update

Like many that write, I have that full time job and family. So finding that time to write enjoyable posts can be hard to find. And if you watch Google, any site that has updates that are few and far between drop in the search engines eyes. And if you are in it for the money, this is a bad thing. Luckily for me, I'm not in it to make money, although any ad revenue I may get will help towards funding this site. So what do you do?

One solution that I'm thinking about is making time right after work to start the outline and some of the body of several posts. Then over the course of a few days I would have knocked a few out that I can schedule to post at a later date. This is also nice if you are planning some time away.

Now this possible solution doesn't play out if you need or want to write on topics that are breaking, such as sports or politics or technology. These topics wait for no man or woman.

Along those lines of breaking topics, I have this great little tool that I can't talk about yet. But needless to say it will be a feature in the "Users Take" review series.

So now that I have written this post, I now know I need to go write about my dawgs. At least it was a win.

So until we blog again, keep your blog lemon fresh.

Comments on my Site Wanted

I have now been posting on various topics from reviews to sports to social media to just the plain random for a few months now. At this point, I do not want to focus on any one topic for this site, because this is who I am. I try to expand into many areas therefore I feel I can comment on several topics.

So from you the reader, I would like to know how I'm doing. Feel free to comment on content, quality, links, site layout, etc. Any suggestions that you leave will be taken to heart, as in the end I would like this to become something more than a hobby (Not income producing, at least not yet) and something that people will look to for a good read.

So until next time, blog on for my bloggers and woof woof for my dawgs.

Weekly Roundup #3

This looked like a good week to have a weekly roundup. But like all good things, they don't always turn out like we planned.

So this week I saw word about the Carver football player and coach, more MJ news, I had something about ESPNU and ESPN360 coming to my area. There was also a lot of tech news like the Microsoft-Yahoo deal or the next iPhone update. See those would have been some great topics.

So hopefully in the next edition, I'll be able to cover many of these areas. And as football season comes around I'll be able to have a post report and future report. But like everything well have to see how it pans out. Only because the real job pays for the house, cars and this blog. If and when that changes, I'll be able to put more time into this site, which is pretty fun to maintain and write for.

So until we blog again, may your job not work you too hard.

Have no fear, the next post is near

It's been a few days since my last post and it's given me some time to think about what I can write about. So I thought I would give some insider information on a few posts I'm working on.

First, Gaining Twitter followers using the so called "x number of followers a day" sites. This topic has been hot and heavy of late, so I thought I would chime in since a few of my Twitter friends have apparently been sucked in.

Second, a Google wrap up of the services that I use and how you can use them in your day to day activities. This post actually started as a presentation for some family members, so with a little more detail added, I hope it too can help you. This post will be part of the, "A Users Take" series.

Lastly, and this will be the next post out, is a new feature that I will try out called "Alan's Weekly Roundup." Here I will cover three or four topics that I found interesting during the week and give my take on those. My plan is to publish this on Friday evenings so that it will make a nice Saturday morning read. These topics may be on politics, sports or anything in between. But in the end, I hope it becomes an entertaining feature that all will look forward to.

So until the next post, may your days be sunny as well as your future.

Do you Blog for you or Others?

One of the concepts of a blog that I have been dealing with is, do I do it for me or do I focus it's content towards others. Well, I think I have come up with a nice mix. Or at least it appears that way to me.

So, when I decided I wanted to have a blog under my name, I thought, what will I write about. I have touched on this in an earlier post, but wanted to expand on the type of content that I will produce. Of note, I was not a journalism major not an English major, so you may come across sections within posts that do not fit the "Standard" for professional journalism. So it's a good thing, I'm not trying to be a professional in those regards. So before I tangent into another topic, lets get back to the question, "Do you blog for you or other?"

My Blog and A Users Take

Now that I have had the site up for a few weeks, I decided to explain what is going to happen here. In the first post, Moving to Squarespace, I touched on this, but not enough to really explain what is going on. So what will Alan's Assessments me about.

  • Day in and day out experiences in life. It may be a post about a grocery store experience, a basketball or football game, it may just be a few lines about nothing.
  • Reviews. I'm not a journalist, nor do I pretend to be one on TV, but I do use items and sometimes the reviews by journalist can be a bit lacking. So I want to give my take on some items. With this, I decided to create a series called "A Users Take" to handle my reviews.

Moving to Squarespace

Updated on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 6:20PM by Registered CommenterAlan Ashley

After many weeks of debating, I have finally decided to give Squarespace a go. Over the course of the weeks leading up to this I had many thoughts going through my head. I hope in this post I can share those with you.

  1. Do I really need a blog? Short answer is yes and no. Now you can see my issue. Lets expand on this a bit.
